What is the connection between totalitarianism and technology?

In today's world, many nations and parties communicate through technology. For example, ISIS reaches out to its followers and posts disturbing videos through the internet. Totalitarian governments use technology as a way to show their dominance and control over the world.

In addition, all a Fascist leader has to do is press enter to create a post in hope to scare and express their dominance around the globe. Totalitarian leaders do not care about freedom or emotion, their main goal is to have power. With technology making it very easy to share and create information, people need to be more cautious when browsing through the internet.

  1. Robert, I agree with what you are saying about the connection between totalitarianism and technology. Governments such as North Korea use the internet to their advantage with constant surveillance on their citizens. With constant surviellance they can have complete control over all constituents and stop any action of revolt. The internet also allows them to send out threats to the world as well.

Because technology is around and keeps on advancing it lets us to be easily controlled and watched.

  2. I also agree with your take on totalitarianism and technology, and the need for users to be more careful.
Technology makes it much easier for totalitarianism to unfold. ISIS is a very good example of showing the connection between totalitarianism and technology. ISIS can reach the entire world in a matter of seconds. What is surprising to me, is that we have not been able to get to the bottom of ISIS, considering all of the technology that exists in our lives. I found an article that talks about getting rid of ISIS, and I found this kind of interesting "Even if the U.S. manages to defeat ISIS militarily in Iraq or Syria, there is no clear plan to fill the political, economic and social void that will be created by its elimination." http://time.com/3547026/us-army-match-for-isis/

By wiping out ISIS, are we creating an opening for something even more dangerous? An even greater insurgency?
