Why is there still so few Women in Science?

In this article titled, "Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science?" in the New York Times published in 2013, the author talks about how there is still a huge bias against women in the science fields. I just wanted to know what you guys think about why this can still be true considering many of the worlds greatest scientific breakthroughs have been found by women in the field.

  1. I believe that there has definitely been progress with bias aganist women in the science fields, however I believe it is still a problem that needs to be addressed and fixed. One of the first sentences in the article says, "Presented with identical summaries of the accomplishments of two imaginary applicants, professors at six major research institutions were significantly more willing to offer the man a job. If they did hire the woman, they set her salary, on average, nearly $4,000 lower than the man’s." This was very suprising to me because in society likes today's where we strive for equality, everyone should be given the same chance to show what they are capable of and shouldn't be restricted of that chance just because of their gender. It might seem like this bias aganist women isn't present anymore, but it is definitely still a problem in not just the science fields, but also many other areas of study.
